Color series: stationery

For this round of ForYourParty’s color series, we are going to tackle wedding stationery. Perfect Palette’s color combination of peach, aqua and ivory takes a subtle approach to spring and summer hues. Aqua mimics the ocean and river streams, while the shades of peach evoke a feeling of fruit and shells on the beach.

Let’s dive right in and discuss everything you need to know to incorporate this fresh color scheme into your wedding stationery:

Your programs will be your guests’ first introduction to your wedding day stationery. It’s important to get the right balance of color and text because you want the content of the card to be the star and the decor serving as an accent.

For a subtle hint of color, you can select ivory programs with peach lettering. Be sure to choose the darkest shade in your palette so the text is legible. If you want more of your color scheme to be incorporated into the programs, select a light peach card stock and mix in aqua and white typeface. For example, your subheaders, like “Prelude,” “Processional,” “Invocation” and “Exchange of Vows,” can be written in aqua, while what is written underneath can be peach.

Escort cards
Escort cards allow you to guide your guests to their seats in a no-fuss manner. Select cards with the guests’ names written clearly in aqua typeface set on an ivory card. You can incorporate peach by setting the cards on a peach table cloth. For another option, you may want to design peach escort cards with bright aqua lettering. Then the cards can be set on a white ivory table cloth next to a small vases filled with aqua-hued flowers.

Some brides and grooms get creative with how they display their escort cards. You could tape them to a large mirror or hang them on a wide poster board. Or you can attach each card to a small floral arrangement that doubles as a gift for your wedding guests. Select peach-colored blooms to match your color theme.

Place cards
In addition to all your color options, there are a range of place card styles from which you can choose.

Folded – Folded cards are a popular choice among brides. The fold allows the card to stand on its own and be easily read. Choose a place card color that contrasts with your table cloth and plates so it stands out. For example, if the majority of your tablescape is peach, an aqua place card would be visible among the sea of pastel hues. White would also work in this case. Be sure to choose a contrasting color (within your color palette, of course) for the font.

Envelope – Envelope place cards are a luxurious choice. They add a bit of mystery to the seating process. To fully incorporate your colors into these place cards, choose a different hue for the envelope and the card. An aqua envelope would catch the attention of guest as they open the cards to see what is inside, which could reveal a peach card with aqua or white lettering.

Applique – Applique is another elegant place card style. This card has the monogram of the bride and groom on top in a decorative script font. A white place card with an aqua monogram would be a crisp and fresh looking selection.

Menu cards
Menu cards add some excitement to the wedding because they let guests know what type of meal is in store. On ivory card stock, design a menu with peach and aqua typeface. A block font is best so your guests can easily read each appetizing menu option. However, choose what fits best in your wedding theme.

Table numbers
It’s important you have bright table numbers so guests can escort themselves to their assigned seats. Layered table numbers provide a multidimensional look to the cards. Tall cards are best for large weddings, while the square ones would be a nice touch for smaller celebrations. Your color theme can match perfectly if you select a peach and aqua layer for your cards and choose aqua for the numbers.

Note cards
While you are choosing your wedding stationery, it’s best to select your note cards as well. This way you can incorporate your color theme into your thank-you cards. There are a range of card styles from which you can choose, like rounded edges, beveled, flat or folded cards.

For a subtle card, choose ivory-colored paper and write the words “Thank You!” or your names in an aqua script typeface. If you want a more colorful thank-you card then peach paper with aqua lettering would be the perfect selection.
