How to throw a glam Oscars viewing party

The Oscars are taking place on March 2 this year, which means it’s already time to plan your viewing party. Remember: it needs to be a glitzy and glam-filled event, similar to the real Academy Awards ceremony. Here is what you need to plan the best viewing bash:

Dress up
Have all your guests dress to the nines. They should wear their best cocktail attire so they look great at your awards ceremony party. We happen to love all things that glitter like these dresses below!

Plan Oscar-worthy decor
As for the decorations, you’ll want to have a red carpet leading up to your home. A red, gold and silver color scheme is the best choice for this iconic type of party. You can add metallic tinsel to vases and hang mirror balls from the ceiling. Don’t forget to set up a place to take pictures of all your guests. Create a colorful backdrop with Oscar logos or film reels and hang it on your wall. Then designate someone as the paparazzi for the evening to ensure everyone gets their picture taken in front of the step and repeat.

Serve swanky libations
Treat your guests to a full bar and signature cocktails. Create some fruity drink like a cosmopolitan spiked with a flavored liqueur. Or you can whip up your own creative concoction.

Feature finger food
Since you’re hosting a cocktail party, you’ll want to feature light food. Serve bite-sized appetizers like mini meatballs, bruschetta, deviled eggs with caviar and other tasty morsels.

Go over your Oscar picks
Print out Oscar ballots and have your guests select their picks for the top categories like best director, best picture and best actress and actor. Then see who has the most correct selections at the end of the night and offer the winner a prize. We found this adorable free printable Oscar Ballot!

Follow the live tweeting hashtag
Extend the reach of your Oscars viewing party to the entire world by tweeting live. Just jump on Twitter to dish on the latest awards news throughout the show and use the hashtag #Oscars to make sure your tweets join the conversation.

Offer your guests swag bags
Swag bags are the finishing touch on your Oscars viewing party. Celebs are used to getting treated to a gift bag full of trendy products, so do the same for your guests. Place sweets inside each container along with scented candles and a copy of some of the films on the best picture nomination list. Be sure to design personalized gift bags with the phrase “The 86th Academy Awards” written on the front.
