How to throw the ultimate St. Patrick’s Day celebration

Why head to a bar for St. Patrick’s Day when you and your friends can celebrate at home? You can transform your pad into the ultimate party headquarters. Here are some tips for doing just that:

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the easiest parties to plan for because your color scheme has already been chosen. Decorate your home in a sea of varied green hues for a chic monochromatic look.

Table – Lay out green tablecloths to help with the cleaning process later. Then place your appetizers on the table along with your custom napkins. Write a traditional greeting on them, like “Slainte,” which means good health. There’s also a popular Irish quote you can feature on custom coasters:

“Here’s to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. A pretty girl and a true one. A cold beer – and another one.” Then close off the quote with a “Cheers!”

Lighting – You can pick up green holiday lights and hang them around your home, like on the banisters, window sills and chandelier.

St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect occasion for your guests to get decked out in their green clothes. On the invite, specify that their attire should be casual and green so they will match the decor of your home and really showcase the spirit of the holiday. Beer – Beer will be the drink of choice on St. Patrick’s Day. You can pick up some craft Irish brews for your guests to enjoy or whip up your own concoctions. For example, add a few drops of green food coloring for a color-appropriate beverage. Or you can mix some fruit juice in the beer to create your own beverages. Showcase your creativity by serving your creations in bottles with a special drink tag that says “Bob’s brew,” or something similar. Customized stadium cups with a St. Patrick’s Day motif are another way to incorporate the theme into your party decor.

Dishes – Get creative with your food offerings. Use a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter and to make cutouts of spinach tortillas. Then bake them in the oven to crisp them up, and serve them alongside a flavorful dip. You can also make a salad and use a tiny cookie cutter to cut out basil shamrock shapes.

Dessert – Add some green food coloring to your cupcakes, cookies and other sweet treats for a festive dessert. Then display everything on trays on a buffet table.
